Documenting Baby's Milestones
Shady Side, MD -
Braden's first year of life is flying by in the blink of an eye.
In September I visited the family in Shady Side to document Braden's 8-Month-Old Milestones session. Mama Natalia suggested we do something a little different this time around and told me about an island off of Parish Creek in Shady Side the family often kayak's to. Would I be interested in taking pictures of the family at the beach?
Immediately I was intrigued by the idea. Doing something different every day is what keeps this job fresh and exciting, plus I knew Braden and big brother Brandt would have a ball, making my photographs even more special. I was a bit concerned about kayaking my expensive gear across the creek, but I took some safety precautions and put my trust into dear old Papa Byron to navigate us safely across.
It was a very warm Sunday in September - a perfect final day at the beach for the summer of 2017. Byron brought me out to the island first and then went back to get the family. While I waited, I tested my equipment and found the best source of main light for our shoot.
When Byron, Natalia, Brandt, and Braden arrived to join me I was all set to shoot. I'm told this was Braden's first time on the beach, and he had a blast. I think it's safe to say he will have no problem returning again next year.
I spent a little more than an hour documenting the family as they went about their business. Other than some guiding words and instruction here and there, this session was done completely photojournalistically. I didn't use any artificial lights nor did I pose anyone. The results absolutely speak for themselves. What a fun day.
