Interior Photography: Mason's Famous Lobster Rolls
Photographing Main Street business in Downtown Annapolis
ANNAPOLIS, MARYLAND -
Photographing business interiors is not something I get asked to do often, but when I do it is something I really enjoy.
For starters, your subject is an inanimate object so there's no need to worry about posing or head-swapping. Bonus.
Additionally, there's a lot of opportunity for creating geometric formations, leading lines and looking from unique perspectives, all things, surprisingly, I find myself doing on a daily basis anyway.
Tack on to that this particular business, Mason's Famous Lobster Rolls, is owned by a dear friend from high school, and you've got the makings for a really special photography shoot.
Mason's Famous Lobster Rolls
Mason's Famous Lobster Rolls opened in 2014, at 188 Main Street in Annapolis, and is owned by Dan Beck, who is married to my friend, Carolyn Beck. In a town and state inundated with crabs, this lobster joint has made quite an impression on the local clientele.
I took exterior photos of the restaurant in 2014, going downtown Annapolis at 5 a.m. on a Sunday morning to a completely empty Main Street, which, if you've ever been to Annapolis, is an extremely rare feat.
Earlier this summer, Dan called again and asked if I could take interior photos because they'd just re-branded and re-decorated the restaurant. Absolutely, I said.
The place looked great. Carolyn had some very specific ideas for photos and created a mood board for me before our session. A mood board, for those who may not know, is basically a collection of photography examples that exemplify the type of images a client is interested in. I typically have my clients also write a short sentence about why they like a particular photo.
I went to the restaurant before it opened one morning and set up my equipment. The staff were very willing to help me in my endeavor, even if some of my requests seemed a bit odd.
After edits, the Becks ordered several images from me, some of which are up now up on their website, masonslobster.com, which also looks great. Be sure to check out their website and then head to downtown Annapolis and enjoy the best lobster roll this side of Maine.
