"An investment in knowledge pays the best interest." -- Benjamin Franklin

October 2017, was jam-packed full of portrait and landscape photography projects. From weddings, to art shows, to photography expos, it seemed like I was everywhere at once.

I spent so much time creating, learning and having fun that month, and I suspect that period will shape my life and my photography business for many years to come.

Perhaps the most beneficial investment in my time during that insane month was spent participating in Professional Photographers of America's Super 1 Day Courses on October 13 & 16, in Ellicott City and Accokeek, Maryland.

On the 13th, I studied the art of product photography with Chris Paulis at his home in Ellicott City. Though not a genre I do very often, Chris' enthusiasm and mastery of the subject gave me a jolt of creative energy that I hope to express in the months going forward.

On the 16th, I traveled to Accokeek to study shallow depth of field portraits with Kelly Schneider at Captured Journeys Photography. He and his wife, Kalina, welcomed about 10 photographers and 10 models into their home to teach the lighting and posing techniques used in his fine art boudoir portraiture.

Each experience was enlightening and provided me with tips and tricks to include in my photography arsenal. Both teachers knew their craft well and were very generous to share it with others. If you are a photographer looking for a good education, PPA Super 1 Day courses are worth the investment.
