Family Portraits in Cape St Claire

ANNAPOLIS, MD -

I've known Matt, my brother's best friend, since his freshman year at St. Mary's High School in Annapolis. I've watched him grow from a kid with a curly 'fro, hemp necklace, and Birkenstock's, to a grown man with a slightly smaller curly 'fro, bushy beard and a pair of Chuck Taylors.

Matt is studying to become an architect and his wife, Stephanie, is a teacher in the Anne Arundel County Public School system. Both are hard-working, fun-loving people who became the proud parents recently to a little ray of sunshine they named Piper Adams.

Fun tip: Matt is a descendant of the second and sixth  presidents of the United States, John and John Quincy Adams.

I had the privilege of meeting Piper on a sunny but chilly November morning in between classes and homework for Matt. What a joy she was to work with - easy going, malleable - completely in line with her parents' laid back philosophy.

Being dog lovers, the family pets, Zeppelin and Max, joined in on the session, though they were less than cooperative at first.

After a few false starts, the family and I headed inside to de-thaw Piper and get a few shots while the dogs lounged on the couch. They were much more comfortable this time around.

For the rest of the session I focused on Piper in her room. We utilized her favorite bouncy chair, stuffed animals, books and blankets to give the session and uniquely Tuckfield experience.

During one of the Piper's feedings I went outside and played around with Zeppelin and Max, who were much more relaxed in front of the camera this time around.

Similar to what happened when my own brother had his first child, I felt a deep sense of pride knowing Matt was now a father. I had an even deeper sense of pride when I had the pleasure of meeting his beautiful little girl and documenting her first moments on earth.

Welcome to the world, little Piper. Thanks for sharing your beautiful smile with us.
