Meet The Team

Jamie

Proud mama, adoring wife, sports junkie, disciple of music, student of history, writer of words, believer in peace, and photographer of the offbeat.

Maryland Girl

Born in Prince George's County, raised in Anne Arundel County, college educated in Frederick County, and currently residing in Baltimore County, Jamie is a Maryland girl to her core. After spending the first part of her career as an award-winning journalist in Delaware, Jamie now focuses her time on entrepreneurial endeavors including Jamie-Leigh Bissett, LLC, Maryland's premiere Offbeat Photographer.

We Are Family

Though not official partners in the business, Jamie's husband, Steve, and daughter, Julia, often accompany her to shoots, shows, and shenanigans, aligning with the family's goal of working together.

This collaborative spirit is also apparent in Jamie-Leigh Bissett Photography where every friend is a potential client, and every client is a potential friend. I hope you'll get in touch and discover how fulfilling it can be to collaborate on heirloom art together.

Steve

Steve's Headshot

Philosopher and ploughman, Steve is a designer for an environmental engineering firm by day, and the Gift of Beard by night. He enjoys fruit and vegetable gardening, playing the drums, and always being right. His encouragement and optimism are the fuel that feeds the family's creative fire.

Julia

Headshot Photography

Perhaps the single most amazing kid on the planet, Julia is a born leader and future art teacher. She enjoys building Legos, singing and dancing to her favorite Lorde song, and kicking butt at karate. With an aptitude for making friends easily, Julia will no doubt bring a smile to the faces of everyone she meets.

The Portrait and Wedding Photography Process

How The Portrait and Wedding Process Works

The Portrait and Wedding Photography Process

How The Portrait and Wedding Process Works

The Initial Consultation:

New to Offbeat portrait and wedding photography and need help making sense of it all? The following process will hopefully clear things up and make you better prepared for our session.

Perhaps the most important communication between potential collaborators, the initial consultation allows the photographer and subject to discover each other for the first time to see if they might work well together.

Another benefit to the initial consultation is the ability to discuss photography wants and needs so all parties are on the same page from the get-go. Do you have pets you’d like to include in your portraits? What about bringing Grandma and Grandpa along for the session? Are you going on vacation and want photos on location? Every portrait and wedding project is unique, and as such, it is not possible to provide a one-size-fits-all-approach to planning, or pricing for the matter.

Booking Proposal/Contract:

Did we decide to collaborate? Great! This stage was created for the business side of things. After our initial consult where we discuss your photography wants and needs, I send you a Booking Proposal with the approximate prices you can expect to pay for the photography services we discussed. After completing the booking proposal, signing the contract, and paying your deposit, your session will be booked and ready for our pre-session planning procedure.

Pre-Session Planning:

Our pre-session planning is vital to the creative integrity of the project and is an absolute requirement. Even if you live out of state and can’t meet in person, we will still communicate by whatever means necessary so that the day of our session runs smoothly and efficiently. During our pre-planning process we create mood boards, which consists of you choosing pictures discuss locations, timing, wardrobe, and any other detail we can think of for our session.

The Session:

All the pre-planning in the world can’t compensate for being late. Therefore, be early and ready to shoot at our agreed upon time and place. Late arrivals will not be made up and will affect the amount of final images presented to you. Your time is valuable and so is mine – Be On Time.

Photo Reveal/Ordering Session:

After I have chosen and lightly edited final images from our session, we will schedule a time to meet for our photo reveal and ordering appointment. This will be the only time for ordering portraits from our session, so all parties are expected to be present and on time, and a method of payment on hand.

This appointment will allow us to choose images for any pre-ordered albums or wall art, as well as order additional prints and products. For weddings and extended family session I strongly encourage as many participants to attend this session as possible. For payment, I accept cash, check or credit, but please note: orders will not be placed until each has cleared the bank.

A few things to note: kids under the age of 12 are not welcome to this appointment. It’s not that I don’t love those adorable little humans it’s just that I need adults present and focused on choosing and ordering their favorite portraits. Another thing to note is, I do not share online galleries unless we have agreed to another arrangement beforehand. Illegal downloads decrease the quality of my work, which I consider invaluable, and are not a victimless crime.

Ordering and Delivery:

Once payment is received your order will be immediately sent to the lab for creation. Upon completion in most cases, the prints and products will be sent to me for quality control purposes, after which I will get in touch with you to schedule and time to deliver in person. In the event you live out of town, prints and products may be shipped directly to you.

Once your products have been delivered your portrait project will be marked complete and my contractual obligations fulfilled.

Heriloom Albums

Immortalize your family with a custom heirloom album. Heirloom albums are my specialty with most portrait and event clients investing in at least one. I offer two different types of albums in various sizes and colors. Although you will see a physical copy of my album and all of its options during our initial consultation, below are some digital examples of recent designs I've created.

Album Examples:

Below, flip through my online album proofs to get a sense for how albums are designed. Each session is unique, which means there is never a cookie-cutter approach to album design. Keep in mind that each image is a full page spread, or two adjacent pages.

How To Get Your Hands On Offbeat Art

Shows:

I offer many ways to purchase fine art Landscapes, and the best place to start is always in person. Visit my Events page to see when I'm coming to a town near you. I always have new stock available, and would love an opportunity to show you my work while telling you the story behind it.

Do you know of a great local art show that you think I should be a part of? I'd love to hear any and all suggestions Email me at JLB@OffbeatPhotographer.com.

Online:

My new and improved online store shows you photo examples of all my in-stock work complete with different views of each piece. Find out the size and medium of each item, and read the story behind its creation.

Custom:

Don't see your favorite Offbeat image in the online store? No worries. Custom art is always available in several mediums including fine art prints; framed and matted; metal; canvas gallery wrap, and ornaments and pillows. Not sure what size you want? Take and email a photo of the room where you'd like to hang the art, and I'll show you to scale the perfect size for your wall.

Commissioned Photography:

If you have an office space, home space, or website you'd like to fill with custom artwork of a specific place or subject, Offbeat commissioned photography is the right fit for you. Over the years, I've had the privilege of decorating multiple offices and homes in Baltimore and Annapolis, Maryland, as well as a handful of websites. For me, there's nothing more fulfilling than a collaborative effort which allows me to explore new places and themes, while being able to bring to life someone else's vision.
